In December 1991, Ant Bwe Kyaw was arrested in connection with the " 10 December" student demonstration, a peaceful expression of approval for the awarding of the Noble Peace Prize to Aung San Suu Kyi. Later he was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment and was incarcerated in the cell of Insein annex jail, known as special prison. He was moved to Tharawaddy 2 years before he was released in September 1999.

He was arrested August 21, 2007 at his home.


At least 165 activists have been detained since August 19 when peaceful protests began in Burma
