Min Zayar

Over Six year's imprisonment
(1989-1995)

Min Zeya, who had a leading role during the student demonstration, is the chairperson of the All Burma Students' Union Reconstruction Committee founded after the 1988 uprising. He is currently detained again by the Burmese military regime.


1989- Arrested in August after being accused of leading an underground network. Sentenced to 8 years imprisonment.
1990- Moved to Thayet Prison, a remote prison located in middle Burma.
1995- Released in October after serving his prison term.
1996- Detained temporarily after a student demonstration occurred in Rangoon.
1999- Detained temporarily again prior to a never realized people’s movement on 9/9/99.

Min Ko Naing, Ko Ko Gyi, Min Zeya, Pyone Cho and Htay kywe were detained by Home Affair Minstry on September 27, 2006. Then they were all released on January 11, 2007. At that time, authority gave a prason to them was for discussion. However, these leaders didn't have a chance for disscussion with authority.

He was arrested August 21, 2007 at his home.


At least 165 activists have been detained since August 19 when peaceful protests began in Burma
