He was arrested on August 21, 2007.
Not only himself but many of his family members are also activists. His father died in Tharawaddy prison. His father was elected as a member of parliament (MP) from Htilin constituency, Magwe Devision, representing the National League for Democracy in 1990 election. His father (U Saw Win) was arrested on August 23, 1991 and imprisoned for eleven years.

His son is also a student activist. However his wife worked at the Myanmar Textile industries. But because of her husband – Zaw Zaw Min and son's – De Nyein Lynn political activity, she was said that she was dismissed from her job because of for not reporting her husband and her son's political activities to her superiors.

Even though authority put pressure to him and his family to stop his and his son political activities, they don't stop their activities.
