Anticipating
Release
Political prisoners live in anticipation of their release. When
political prisoners are released, though, they face many challenges
to reintegrate themselves into society. Many are unable to find
employment or restart their education, and they remain under
the constant watch of the Military Intelligence.
Most face
physical and psychological problems which they are unable to
address for lack of stability in their lives and lack of financial
resources. Further, there is little knowledge in Burma about
psychiatry or psychology, which means political prisoners have
nowhere to turn to address their mental suffering.
The scars
from their torture last for the remainder of their lives.
