KO Htay Aung started his University education at Rangoon University (Hlaing Campus) in 1984, majoring in Burmese. Three years later, in September 1987, when the B.S.P.P. (Burmese Socialist Programme Party) announced the demonatization of several bank notes, the students were very angry and initiated a stike against B.S.P.P

Sithu (a.k.a.) Ye Naing, a student activist, passed away of lung cancer yesterday in Tharawaddy prison after 11 years in prison. He was arrested in 1990 and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. His prison term ended in 1999 but the authorities refused to release him
