Political prisoner Nay Lin Soe' health
at risk
It has been reported that student leader
Nay Linn Soe was transferred from Kalay Prison to Mandalay Prison
on May 9, 2004. The authorities chose to relocate Nay Linn Soe
rather than provide sufficient medical treatment, despite his
deteriorating health. His family tried to visit him at Kalay Prison
on May 8, but the authorities concerned refused the visit. On
May 9, he was transferred to Mandalay prison but was not treated
for his ailments. On May 12, one of the family members was allowed
to meet with him at Mandalay prison.
According to a reliable source, his health
is at risk - he cannot eat, walk, or talk. The family has asked
that he be provided treatment at their own expense. Authorities
have not yet granted this request.
Tate Naing, Secretary of Assistance Association
for Political Prisoners (Burma) said, “We have informed
the ICRC of his condition and lack of adequate medical care. We
ask the SPDC to release political prisoners, in particular those
who, like Nay Linn Soe, are gravely ill. ”
